We visited this month in California a successful example how the « IT ecosystem » in Silicon Valley is working. A private institution called « Plug and Play tech Center » (see link) is working as a kind of incubator to help new ideas to enter the market. Young companies or new ideas were scanned by the consultants of the center and introduced to business angels and investors (VCs) to get things to fly. The center is interested to preselect the companies and present only realistic opportunities to the VCs. A co-investment in the case of a successful presentation and go to market strategy is mandatory by the center.
The service of the center is supporting the new ideas in developing business plans, link technical support if needed and also establish connections to existing global players. Also international companies like VW, Microsoft, … are on the campus to support ideas and shorten the ways.
At the end: a fast way to check an IT idea in a IT-driven environment and it works, with a short way to market.
